Headies Calls For Submission For Its 2023 Edition
The prolific Nigerian Award is about to host its 16th edition, and entries have started.
Organizers of Nigeria's popular award show Headies have made an announcement calling for entries for its 2023 edition.
The Headies on May 22 called on eligible parties to submit contents that could be considered for the covetous award. As expected, the year in review for its 16th edition starts from January 2022 to March 2023; hence, only musical content released within this time will be eligible for nominations.
The Headies equally made it known that the deadline for the submission window is Friday, June 16, 2023.

It's often cute for people to say that young children will eventually grow up to be like their parents. At a young age, kids are always hanging around their parents, wanting to soak up every moment. However, it rarely happens where a child excels in the same profession as their mother or father.
Having good genes can help in the athletic realm however, and it's possible that certain current NBA players got a head start on their basketball futures early on.
We'll take a look at four players whose dads also played in the NBA.
Stephen Curry
It may be hard to believe this now, but Stephen Curry was once primarily identified as Dell Curry's son. There may be offspring of current NBA players who one day might achieve great things, and Curry serves as a role model for those who want to be just like their dads, and more.
Stephen Curry would spend time on the floor before, during and after Charlotte Hornets games, the team that Dell played with for 10 seasons. Young Stephen would throw his full body weight into shots that children wouldn't dream of taking on a regulation sized NBA hoop.
Dell Curry was known as one of the best sharpshooters in the league throughout his 16 year career, but his son has completely changed the sport as we know it. The elder Curry knocked down 1,245 three pointers during his time in the NBA. Stephen Curry has made the most three-point shots of all time, amassing over 3,300 and counting.
Klay Thompson
Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Mychal Thompson couldn't have gotten luckier at the genetic jackpot slots if he tried. Luckily, he had three sons who all played professional sports. Trayce Thompson is an outfielder in Major League Baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Mychel Thompson suited up for a few NBA games in the 2011-2012 NBA season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
His most famous son, Klay Thompson, is a future Hall of Fame shooting guard with the Golden State Warriors. Thompson's confidence, ability to shoot from long distance, and defend the perimeter have been major reasons why the Warriors have won four championships. He's also as tough as nails, having come back from major leg injuries.
Mychal Thompson is no stranger to winning himself. He captured two NBA championships with the Lakers in the 1980's, as an important role player on those title teams.
Domantas Sabonis
One of the greatest what-if's in NBA history involves former Portland Trail Blazers center Arvydas Sabonis. He was internationally known as one of the most skilled players in the world, but did not take his talents to the NBA until he was 31 years-old. At that time, injuries and mileage had sapped him of much of his athleticism.
Luckily for the basketball world, fans get to see a Sabonis who is doing some impressive things from the very start of his basketball journey. Arvydas' son, Domantas Sabonis has already been named to the All-Star team three times in his seven year career, and is an automatic double-double when it comes to rebounding and scoring statistics. He's been front and center during a resurgent campaign for the Kings.
It turns out that the younger Sabonis also inherited his father's passing skills. Arvydas was known as one of the greatest passing big men of all time, as he set up teammates in a way that guards were known for. Domantas Sabonis is cut from the same cloth, and his unselfishness has allowed him to be an enjoyable teammate to play with.
Cole Anthony
Another current NBA player who grew up around the league is Orlando Magic guard Cole Anthony. He is the son of former New York Knicks guard Greg Anthony. Cole Anthony was extremely emotional after he got drafted into the NBA, since he understood just how hard he had to work to get to that level.
Greg Anthony also played for other teams like the Portland Trail Blazers, Vancouver Grizzlies and Chicago Bulls, among others, during his 11-year career. He was best remembered for his time with the Knicks, who were one of the best teams in the NBA when Anthony came into the league. Greg Anthony also had a very notable career as a college basketball player with the UNLV Running Rebels.
Cole Anthony's career is off to a solid start. He's had varying roles thus far in his three years with the Magic, but it seems like his ability to score the ball will be a skill that keeps him in the league for a long time. It'll be interesting to see if Orlando tries to extend his contract, or if he gets moved to a team that is closer to winning than the rebuilding Magic.

Multiple award-winning singer and performer David Adeleke who is popularly known as Davido in an exclusive interview with Billboard news opened up on what he thinks about being called the king of Afrobeats by Forbes in the latest magazine issue for Africa after the successful release of his fourth studio album 'Timeless.'
The singer revealed that he has always been at the frontline advocating for Africa. He shared that during his time schooling in the United States in Alabama, he had actively promoted the African culture in anyway he could and had decided also that if he was to do music it would be the same for him (this means promoting the African sound).

When Will the Premier League 2023/24 Transfer Window Open?
The English Premier League have made an official announcement concerning when the 2023/24 summer and winter transfer window will be opened which will allow clubs in the league to buy or sell players.
What is a Transfer Window?
A transfer window in football season is defined as a period before or during a season when clubs can buy or sell players. The window is always opened twice in one season;
(1) Summer:
This is opened before the season starts and it is always closed mostly two weeks into the new season
(2) Winter:
This is always open in January when the football season is on. It allows most clubs to strengthen any part of their team that is lacking deficiency, this gives them room to finish the season on a high.
When is the Premier League Window Opening?
The Summer window will open on Wednesday 14 June 2023 and will close on Friday 1 September 2023. Meanwhile, the Winter window will open on Monday 1 January 2024 and will close on Thursday 1 February 2024.

Spanish FA Gives Verdict on Vinicius Jnr Racial Incident Against Valencia
The Spanish FA have decided to overturn the red card that was shown to Vinicius Jr during the game against Valencia on Sunday, May 21st, 2023.
The Brazilian was issued a victim of racial abuse during the game at the Mestalla Stadium. He was also issued a red card toward the end of the game by referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea.
However, the Spanish FA announced on Tuesday, May 24th, 2023 that the red card to Vinicius has been overturned also confirmed that Valencia had been fined €45,000 (£40,000) for the behavior of their fans and will be forced to close the stand where the abusive chants originated for five matches.

The competition committee has sanctioned Valencia CF with the partial closure of the Mestalla stadium for five matches, more specifically the Mario Kempes south stand, following the events that occurred during the First Division National League Championship match between the local team and Real Madrid CF. It is considered proven that, as reflected by the referee in his minutes, there were racist shouts at Vinicius, a Real Madrid CF player, during the aforementioned match, altering the normal course of the match and considering the infractions very serious. In addition, an economic sanction of 45,000 euros is imposed on Valencia.
Vinicius has received a lot of support from footballers around the world, notably from the President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino who reinstated that he doesn't support racism in any way, especially in football.

Ace Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has spoken about his release from police custody after he was arrested for assaulting a police officer.
The Grammy-nominated singer was arrested on Monday, May 15, 2023, for assaulting a police officer on the third mainland bridge in Lagos.
Seun was charged with assault on a police officer, an offense contrary to Section 356 of the Criminal Code Act, and although the singer was granted bail on May 16, 2023, after Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun ordered police to complete their investigation within 48 hours, he wasn't released until today, May 23, 2023.

These African Musicians Have Over a Billion Views on YouTube
Hitting a billion views on YouTube is a huge milestone for any musical Artist. So in this list, we spotlight the African musicians who have gained a total of 1 billion and more views on their individual YouTube channels:
Like white rice and stew, music releases and music videos are two musical outputs best relished together. As a result, the video-sharing platform, YouTube which is the most popular one has over the years garnered a reputation as a music-streaming hub, enabling fans to connect to their favorite musicians via audio-visuals content. The app has also cultivated a habit of celebrating the milestones of its content creators whenever they unlock a feat and in Nigeria where the fans are just as competitive as the musicians, these milestones are converted into bragging rights that are touted whenever a supremacy tussle is in the offing. So apparently since hitting the milestone of a billion views on a video or in total is a huge deal not only on YouTube but in real life, in this list, we'll be spotlighting the African musicians who have gained a total of 1 billion and more views on their individual YouTube channels, in the process making them the African acts with the most YouTube streams.
Who are the African Artist with over billion Views on YouTube?
8. Davido from Nigeria
Pretty much the Pied Piper of Nigerian music; wherever Davido is, a crowd is sure to converge. This carries true for the megastar who joined YouTube in 2018 yet has amassed views to the tune of 1.47 billion and fifty-two million views and counting, with the highest subscriber count of any Nigerian act at 3.41 million.

A king of collaborations and hit records, Davido's top videos include Fall, which has 264 million views, If with 165 million, FIA with 99 million, Assurance which has 89 million, and several other double-digit numbers in millions.
Davido's ranking as the 8th musician on this list is, however, purely subject to the total number of views on his personal YouTube channel, as the star has impressive numbers on videos uploaded under the channel of his record label, DMW. For instance, his Aye video alone has 77m views, the two videos of Skelewu sit at 30 million and 14 million views, respectively, Gobe also sits at 45 million, and the star has an estimate of about 250 million views and more from music videos and tour videos alone.
7. Fally Ipupa from Congo
A Congolese icon, Fally Ipupa's name, and sound is one that has earned recognition in coasts far from his Congolese country due to his talents and his love for collaborating. His solo songs are however the cherry on the cake, giving the artiste a good chunk of YouTube relevance via views. With 3.5 million subscribers, Fally Ipupa who'd joined YouTube in 2007, currently has views that stand at a billion and counting.
His most-watched videos include Un Coup featuring French singer, Dadju, which has 75 million views, Eloko Oyo, with 91 million views, A Flye, with 51 million, and more.

6. Wizkid from Nigeria
Wizkid, whose videos are uploaded on Starboy TV, has incredibly revolutionized Afrobeats in a decade and conquered the YouTube space with even less time. Having joined in September 2014, the megastar ranks as the fourth most viewed African musician on YouTube with 1.2 billion and counting streams and a current total of 2.79 million subscribers.
And while the world continues to enjoy his Essence smash hit, the record is still several views from being his most viewed videos, with Joro amassing 239m views, his Come Closer sitting pretty at 131m views, the Nigerian internet sphere-shaking Fever at 108m and then, Essence comes in at 144m.
5. Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania
In June 2020, while the Covid-19 pandemic raged, Diamond Platnumz had with his craft brought glory to his country Tanzania when he got a surprise delivery of an iced-out cake in celebration of attaining the 1 billion views milestone. One of the biggest stars in his home country Tanzania which doubles as the home to the Bongo Flava sound that he has helped propagate, Platnumz had become the first Sub-saharan African musician to hit the 1 billion benchmark after joining the app in 2011.
A look through his video discography would reveal the importance of collaboration as his channel's main squeezes happened to include iconic collaborations with musicians from all over the world. These records include his feature on Congo singer, Inoss'B's Yope Remix which has 179 million views, Nana featuring Nigerian musician, Flavour which has 80 million views, Inama with assist from Congolese singer, Fally Ipupa sitting on 104 million views, African Beauty featuring American singer, Omarion and the Beverly Hills-located video for Marry You with Ne-Yo with both raking in 47 and 55 million views respectively.
All of these views and more have joined forces to grant the Tanzaniana icon 6.24 million subscribers and 1,690,331,090 views.
4. Burna Boy from Nigeria
Once the most talented, underrated act in the country, Burna Boy has, in a short while, bridged the gap from underrated to megastar, proving his skills on charts, endorsements and shows. He also proves it with his visual presence as he ranks in at number five on the list of African musicians with 1 billion and more views at a total of 1.7 billion streams and 2.37 million subscribers.
These numbers are also super impressive as he joined the video-sharing platform in 2018. His biggest videos include On the Low which has 333 million views, Ye at 177 million, and Gbona at 70 million views.
2. Aya Nakamura from Mali
The second act on the esteemed list of African musicians with 1 billion and more YouTube views is Mali-born, France-based star Aya Nakamura. While she may have relocated to the European country in her childhood, her African roots have led her to record-breaking success with her blend of Afrobeats and urban sounds, finding pleasant footing in Europe to make her the most streamed female musician in France.

Aya Nakamura, who joined YouTube in June 2016, is most popularly known for her song Djadja which has 920 million views on YouTube while a cumulation of her views shows that with 7.09 million subscribers, the star has amassed 3 billion and more views on the platform.
2. Saad Lamjarred From Morocco
Moroccan actor, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, dancer, and record producer, Saad Lamjarred, is a notable mention on this list. The Moroccan has surpassed 4 billion views across all credits on Youtube with over 154 videos on his official channel and a total of 14.4 million subscribers.
Saad Lamjarred's video with the highest number of views so far is the official music video for the evergreen song, 'LM3ALLEM' which has surpassed 1 billion views with over 7 million likes as well, the singer has other videos on his channel with over 100 million views as well, for example, 'GHALTANA' has surpassed 350 million views with 'Casablanca' also surpassing 240 million views as well.
1. Akon from Senegal
Nothing in life is permanent, least of all streaming numbers, so in 24 hours, Akon's views would have gone up and these numbers would be old news. This, however doesn't invalidate the fact that the American-based Senegalese musician, Akon sits at the top of the YouTube food chain where African acts are concerned.
With the video of his global hit Lonely raking in close to a billion views at 700 million and counting, his beyond impressive arsenal of other hits which had been on everyone's rotation back in the 2010s has earned him at this very moment, 10.8 million subscribers and 5.3 Billion views across all credits. Akon also makes an argument for longevity as the star joined the video-sharing app as far back as 2005.

Watch The Moment Seun Kuti Got Released After Several Days In Police Custody
The Afrobeat musician has finally been released on bail after spending over a week in police custody.
Ace Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has been released from police custody after he was arrested for assaulting a police officer.
The Grammy-nominated singer became a nationwide topic after he was seen on video assaulting a police officer on the third mainland bridge in Lagos. Following the shocking incident, the Nigerian police force proceeded to arrest Seun Kuti in the early hours of today, Monday, May 15, 2023.
Seun was charged with assault on a police officer, an offense contrary to Section 356 of the Criminal Code Act, and although the singer was granted bail on May 16, 2023, after Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun ordered police to complete their investigation within 48 hours, he wasn't released until today, May 23, 2023.
According to Punch a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos State, last week Thursday granted an application by the police for an extension of remand of Seun Kuti until Tuesday (today), to enable the police to conclude its investigation, and for the advice of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution.
The singer has now been released on bail to reunite with his family.
