Guardiola insists he's 'no regrets' over Sancho exit as Man City drawn to face Dortmund Mar 20th 2021, 07:01, by Robbie Walls Pep Guardiola has insisted he does not regret allowing Jadon Sancho to leave club, as Manchester City were drawn to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarter-finals. The 20-year-old was part of the City youth set-up between 2015 and 2017, after having been at  Watford's academy prior to that, going on to sign for Dortmund in an £8m deal in August 2017 in search of first-team action. Since his arrival at Signal Iduna Park, the Englishman has been a revelation, registering 86 goals involvements in just 99 Bundesliga games and going on to earn 18 caps for his country to date. While he may be injured at present in what's been a somewhat disappointing campaign thus far for the German side, the winger remains part of what is a hugely exciting young team, alongside the likes of the relentless goal machine Erling Haaland and fellow young English talent, Jude Bellingham. After seeing off Sevilla in the Champions League last-16, Dortmund have now been drawn to face against Sancho's former club City, who strolled past Borussia Monchengladbach in the last round. That has set up a potential reunion for Sancho and City, with the chance to prove what the Premier League side have missed out on. According to boss Pep Guardiola, however, there are no regrets over allowing him to leave the Etihad despite what he's gone on to achieve. "I've said many times, it is not a regret. He decides. He's doing really well," said Guardiola ahead of the FA Cup quarter final with Everton. "Congratulations, he's an exceptional player. The road to Istanbul is set! "We wanted him to stay but he decided to leave, and when people decide to leave all we can do is [let them] leave. "I wish him all the best, except when he plays against us. No regrets at all. If he's happy, I'm happy." With City on course to claim a third league title in four seasons, they haven't exactly been too inhibited by allowing Sancho to leave, with Guardiola unsure as to what may have happened had the talented forward stayed at the club. "Nobody knows," said Guardiola. "Maybe he stays and we don't play good or better. The life of every person decides what life they lead. "We will face him, try to control him – we know the quality he has, everyone knows. "The quality in Dortmund is from all departments. They are a strong team."
