Ashley Cole reckons Mason Mount is now the main man for both Chelsea and England, speaking live on the BBC.
Mount captained the Blues once again for their 2-0 FA Cup win yesterday afternoon against Sheffield United.
It demonstrated how far the 22-year-old has come since making his senior Chelsea debut at the beginning of last season.
He is now an essential tool for Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate, with both managers reaping the rewards of his maturity.
Cole, who represented both England and Chelsea, believed that Mount was quickly becoming the first-choice player for club and country.
He said: "He's (Mount) integral. He has everything. His timing of the runs.
"His understanding of when to get in-between lines. His awareness. He's always scanning.
"He's always on the front foot. He can run forward. He can run back.
"He probably needs to add a little more goals to his game.
"I think he's the number one on Gareth Southgate's team sheet going into World Cup or Euros. He has to play. For me he is the best one."
Chelsea's talented midfielder will be linking up with the Three Lions for their World Cup qualifying matches at the end of this month.
These fixtures offer an opportunity for those selected to stake a claim to be involved in this summer's European Championship squad.
None of the places in Southgate's 23-man roster are confirmed yet.
However, there is a strong sense from across the board that Mount will be involved in the tournament, having swiftly endeared himself to his national coach.
This same appeal has stuck with Tuchel at Chelsea.
Aside from his omission in the German coach's maiden game in charge, Mount's position in the starting line-up has rarely wavered.
All he needs to do is stay fit and continue firing for the Blues and his spot at the Euros will be secured.
