Glenn Maxwell's big hitting not only destroyed the New Zealand bowling in Australia's T20 victory in Wellington, it left a seat looking decidedly second-hand.

Maxwell took 28 runs off a Jimmy Neesham over, with one of the two sixes he hit smashing the back of a plastic seat at Sky Stadium.

Stadium boss Shane Harmon tweeted that the damaged seat wouldn't go to waste, but would be auctioned off to raise money for the Wellington Homeless Women's Trust.

Maxwell came to the party after the match, signing the broken seat and throwing in a little extra as well.

"I'll make a donation, and an apology for breaking a seat," Maxwell said.

"I hadn't hit too many in the middle so I was happy to just get one over the fence."

Maxwell's innings of 70 from 31 balls contained eight fours and five sixes, with his last 61 runs coming from just 21 balls.

Neesham in particular took a hammering, with his four overs costing 60 runs. Maxwell said after the game he was pleased to finally get the upper hand on his former teammate at Kings XI Punjab.

"I enjoyed that. Being good mates, it was nice to get a hold of him," he said.

"I couldn't lay a bat on him in his first over. To be fair I should hit him. I faced him so many times in the IPL and we trained together. It was good fun."
