Gianni Infantino has been re-elected as the President of the body governing football in the world, FIFA for the next four years.
The announcement was made at the 73rd annual FIFA Congress in Kigali, Rwanda. Infantino ran for the position unopposed for a place in the office for a third term as president of the body. The Swiss man expressed his delight and showed appreciation to everyone who believed in him and to those who do not believe in him.
Being President of FIFA is an incredible honor, an incredible privilege. I'm truly humbled and touched by your support. I promise you I will continue serving FIFA, serving football all over the world, serving all 211 member associations of FIFA. It is also a great, great responsibility, To those who love me, and I know there are many those who hate me. I know there are a few. I love you, especially today.
The former UEFA general secretary was elected into office as president during the 2016 FIFA extraordinary congress on February 26, to complete the term of Sepp Blatter, who was forced out of office amid the corruption scandal. He was later re-elected into office in 2016.
This is the second time that the 52-year-old will run for the office of FIFA President unopposed.
