Street pop artist Terry G has shared his thoughts on being compared to Portable (Zazzuu) in character and in music.
Multiple award-winning artist Terry G who is one of the major pioneers of the street pop sound, in a post on his social media platform, reacted to the comparison between him and another street pop artist Portable.
The singer had reacted to a post shared by a social media user following a recent incident involving Portable and some men of the Nigerian police force. Terry G emphasized that there was no reason to compare a pioneer of that style of music to another artist following the trend as well.
Terry G's post on social media read:
"In this craze business please never you compare original to photocopy because una mind go dey soon"G
This is, however not the first time Terry G would address such a comparison, the artist did so in an interview with the punch newspaper in 2022.
Terry G revealed in the interview that:
It is a good thing. I love Portable so much. Despite the fact that I did the 'crazy genre' of music, it does not mean that somebody else cannot be inspired and still unique. He is quite unique. There is nothing he has that can be compared to mine, musically and intellectually. I feel nobody should shut him out. He cannot be stopped. If he stops talking, what else will happen? That is his style. It (controversies) did not just start from me. It started with different guys that represented the streets, and it will still continue. It is normal.
