Davido Addresses Drake's Impact On Afrobeats

The heavyweight Afrobeats singer believes that Afrobeats was already huge before Drake's input.

Heavyweight Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has given his opinion about the impact of Canadian rapper Drake on the success of Afrobeats on a global scale.

It is no doubt that the genre is currently the biggest and most sought-after genre in the world, with poster boys like Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and others selling out arenas all over the world.

In a new interview on the Bootleg Kev Podcast, the award-winning act was asked what he thinks of the influence of Drake on the success of Afrobeats, and Davido made it clear that Afrobeats was huge before Drake hopped on it.

5-time Grammy winner Drake was one of the major global stars to jump on Afrobeats after he jumped on Wizkid's 'Ojuelegba remix' with Skepta, as well as infusing Afrobeats elements on his smash tune 'One Dance,' which also featured Wizkid, a record that has now gone 6x platinum in the UK.

The host stated that Drake has the capacity to blow up any genre, and his involvement in Afrobeats took it to other parts of the world. Davido did agree with that statement, but he opined that Afrobeats was already big. He said:

Afrobeats was definitely huge before Drake. Drake is Drake so I would be lying if I say he didn't put some spotlight on it.
