Chelsea's caretaker manager, Frank Lampard has reacted for the first time concerning the Blues decision to appoint Mauricio Pochettinho as its new manager.
The former player was speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal Football Club. Lampard was asked about his opinion of Pochettinho probably coming in at the end of the season.
Do they [Chelsea] need to take their time to get the right manager? Yeah, they absolutely should do. We are at that stage of the season now where we understand that we are not going to get into Europe, and other managers are probably going: I will take a look at this and wait till pre-season when I can enforce what I want to do. It's not silly on their part – we've got the top four in the run-in and that is going to be a difficult process of games.
Lampard is the fourth manager to be in the dugout this season and that has not helped the players to settle down under a new manager. He also spoke about how changing managers did not see him win more trophies than he did while he was playing for the club.
I was always part of the Chelsea team that changed managers regularly. With casual hindsight, it is easy to say I had great success. I won three titles but I should have won five or six. That's my feeling. We might have won more titles if we'd had more consistency and be able to work in one direction. And I feel like we should have done.
The trip to Arsenal today ( Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023) is one of the four tough opponents the Blues will face before the end of the season. They still have games against the two Manchester clubs, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, and Newcastle United.
